CONCEPT
The Circle of Life
Tasked with the challenge of educating young children on a complex topic, as a group of 9 designers, we worked to decide what our focus for our ABC cards would be. After brainstorming for a couple hours we finally decided on animals, more specifically the symbiotic relationships between animals in nature.

Research
How can our cards be used?
Our research involved interviewing teachers of various age groups to better understand how our cards would function within classroom setting . We aimed to create a fun and engaging way to educate young children on the various symbiotic relationships that are found in nature. Through our ABC’s of symbiotic relationship cards, children are able to match the cards while also learning about various habitats and other complex topics.
LEtter 1
'R' is for Rhino
Rhinoceros are large mammals that reside in various parts of Asia and Africa. They graze throughout their day with their herd and are considered to be one of the most endangered species of animals. With that being said, I wanted to create an environment that displayed Rhinos in a softer setting, since they are considered tough and rugged animals.
I wanted to create an abstract style for the animal and it’s environment to allow the children to use some imagination when picturing a Rhinoceros. By swiping through the different types of Rhinos, children can learn what makes each of them unique.
This interaction helps to differentiate the various species of Rhinoceros in the world. It summarizes where they live, their color,  and size as well as provide a visual example to easily identify these differences
Interaction
Did you know...
There are five types of rhinos in the world, while they are considered one of the most endangered species they are one of the most unique. I wanted to demonstrate the different types of rhinos still in existence with a brief description of what makes each kind so special
LEtter 2
'O' is for Oxpecker Bird
A red-billed or yellow-billed Oxpecker bird can be found in Africa, dwelling on the backs of large animals, including Rhinoceros. They work to protect their large mammal friends by alerting them of danger. The design style for this card was intended to match its compatible card, the Rhino.
Interact with the Oxpecker by tapping it, it will alert the bird of danger causing to fly away, just like it would in real life.

This interactive piece provides an explanation of the Oxpecker's relationship with it's pair the Rhino. These birds are able to sense danger from miles away which allows them to easily scare. I wanted to show this through touch, by tapping on the bird it is "sensing danger" therefore causing it to leave the threatening environment.
Interaction
What are Oxpeckers?
They are the small birds that dwell on large animals such as rhinos and elephants, they help to alert their large mammal friends of nearby danger. For this interaction my goal was to "scare" the oxpecker away to mimic the bird spotting danger
LEtter 3
'D' is for Deciduous Tree
The Hardwood Deciduous Tree serves as a resource for Lemurs. They provide the animals with food which the Lemurs then excrete, spreading the tree seeds. These trees would essentially die without the help of Lemurs. These trees have no distinct features to them which allows the design style of this card to feature an abstract depiction of the tree.
For the interaction, I wanted to provide a brief description about the relationship with lemurs. By featuring them in the piece, it allows children to “poke around” and find them.
This interactive piece features subtle movement to simply display the relation of the tree's pair (lemurs)
Interaction
How helpful are Deciduous Trees?
These trees help to provide lemurs with food so they can help pollinate the forest. Since trees tend not to move much I wanted to show subtle movement like the leaves swaying in the wind while also featuring cute lemurs from the cards match

That's all for now folks..
